LOS ANGELES, CA – Ravi Kapoor’s feature film ‘Patel,’ a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ set within the world of Indian American owned motels, has officially wrapped production. Variety reported the completion on July 18.
The film, described as a “deadpan gangster tragedy,” features a prominent South Asian cast including Utkarsh Ambudkar, Richa Moorjani, Kal Penn, Kunal Nayyar, Danny Pudi, Meera Simhan, Nik Dodani, Bernard White, Punam Patel, Randall Park, Rizwan Manji, Jae Suh Park, and Pete Holmes.
Ravi Kapoor, who also wrote and directed ‘Four Samosas,’ shared with Variety his excitement for the project. “It’s the ‘Macbeth’ story like you’ve never seen it before — a dark, bloody clown piece that’s a nod to immigrant ambition,” Kapoor told the publication, adding, “We are all Patel!”
‘Patel’ is a co-production of Junglee Films, Prism Entertainment, and Camelback Productions. The producing team includes Megha Kadakia, Ashim Ahuja, Ravi Kapoor, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Anita Verma-Lallian.
The film also boasts a robust list of executive producers. These include Kal Penn, Richa Moorjani, Danny Pudi, Meera Simhan, Rizwan Manji, Anita Bhatia of Maharani Productions, Priya Giri Desai, Shruti Ganguly, Smita Mehta, MD, and Christine Yi of Gold House.
Post-production for ‘Patel’ is targeted for completion later this year.
