New Delhi, (IANS) Neal Mohan, an Indian-American, will take over as YouTube’s CEO from Susan Wojcicki, who has announced her resignation after 25 years with the Google-owned corporation.

Mohan joined Google, the organisation that owns YouTube, as its chief product officer in 2008. He holds a Stanford degree and formerly worked for Microsoft.

For almost 15 years, Mohan and Wojcicki have collaborated on projects. In 2015, he was appointed chief product officer of YouTube.

Wojcicki wrote in a blog post late on Thursday, “Today, after nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step back from my position as YouTube’s CEO and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I’m passionate about.
She and Sundar Pichai have agreed that she will serve as an advisor to both Google and Alphabet.

This will enable me to draw on my many experiences from the past to provide advice and direction across Google and the portfolio of Alphabet companies, the executive continued.

Wojcicki was in charge of marketing, worked on the YouTube and DoubleClick acquisitions, served as SVP of Advertising, and, for the past nine years, was CEO of YouTube. She also co-founded Google Image Search and was the driving force behind Google’s first video and book searches as well as early phases of the establishment of AdSense.

She said, “I took on each project that came my way because it had a mission that impacted the lives of so many people all over the world: collecting knowledge, telling stories, and helping creators, artists, and small businesses.

“Mohan will take over as SVP and new YouTube CEO. Working with Mohan has taken up nearly 15 years of my professional life, starting in 2007 when DoubleClick was acquired by Google and continuing as his position grew to become SVP of Display and Video Advertising, according to Wojcicki.

In addition to leading the Trust and Safety team, he has established a top-notch product and UX team and played key roles in the introduction of some of the most significant products, such as YouTube TV, YouTube Music, Premium, and Shorts.

Mohan made sure that “YouTube lived up to its obligation as a worldwide platform.”

According to Wojcicki, “YouTube’s most exciting potential are ahead thanks to everything we’re doing across Shorts, streaming, and subscriptions, as well as the promises of AI. Mohan is the right person to lead us.”
