SAN DIEGO, CA – The Old Globe has unveiled the full cast and creative team for the world premiere of House of India, a comedy by San Diego playwright Deepak Kumar. Directed by Drama Desk Award-nominee Zi Alikhan, the play tells the story of an immigrant family navigating the delicate balance between tradition and progress as they strive to revive a struggling restaurant.

The vibrant cast includes Supriya Ganesh as Vaidehi, Mahira Kakkar as Ananya, Deven Kolluri as Vikram, and Tommy Bo as Jacob.

Set in a strip mall outside Cleveland, House of India centers on Ananya, a widow managing a restaurant left behind by her late husband. As financial pressures mount, Ananya must decide whether to uphold her husband’s traditional vision or embrace her son’s modern, fusion-driven approach to attract new customers.

The play explores themes of identity, assimilation, and change, using the backdrop of food and family to examine the immigrant experience. Director Zi Alikhan joins Kumar in bringing this story of authenticity, culture, and generational differences to life with both humor and heart.

“Deepak Kumar’s play asks important questions about the immigrant experience and what it means to define an American identity,” said Barry Edelstein, Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director. “It’s a play that is both meaningful and fun, and with the incredible team we’ve gathered, it promises to be a memorable theatrical experience.”

Performances of House of India will begin on May 10 and run through June 1, 2025. The production will be staged in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in Balboa Park. Tickets go on sale March 28 at 12 p.m. PT and can be purchased at TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE (234-5623), or in person at the Box Office.
