Ohlone College Names Rakesh Swamy Dean Of Language And Deaf Studies

FREMONT, CA –Ohlone College has appointed Rakesh Swamy as the new Dean of Language, Communication, and Deaf Studies, effective January 1, 2024.
Swamy has been with the college since 1998 and has held various roles. As a veteran faculty member, he has taught all levels of English courses and has been a “renowned expert in teaching the transfer-level English elective in World Mythology, with specific expertise in Polynesian and Indian mythologies,” the college said in a statement.
A native of the Fiji Islands, Rakesh Swamy is of Fijian Indian descent. He completed his Master’s Degree at CSU Hayward (East Bay) before joining Ohlone College as an Instructional Assistant in the English Learning Center. He later became a full-time English faculty member.
Residing in Fremont, he is deeply committed to both his local community and the college. When not in the classroom, Rakesh enjoys attending community events, exploring his dual heritage, and participating in various activities.
