Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light Wins Another Award In NY

NEW YORK, NY – Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light continues to garner acclaim, adding yet another prestigious accolade to its collection. On December 3 the film won Best International Feature at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC), just one day after claiming the same honor at the renowned Gotham Award 2024.

The film’s award streak doesn’t stop there. On November 30, it had also won the Grand Jury Prize at the 17th Asia Pacific Screen Award, following its earlier triumph at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix.

The film’s back-to-back honors have sparked conversation among film enthusiasts, with many questioning the Film Federation of India’s decision to send Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies as the country’s official submission to the Oscars. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, known for Shahid and The Buckingham Murders, weighed in on the debate, publicly endorsing All We Imagine as Light as India’s Oscar entry.

The Malayalam-Hindi feature tells the story of two roommates, Prabha and Anu, who are nurses navigating their own challenges. Prabha’s life is thrown into chaos when she receives an unexpected package from her estranged husband, while Anu, eager for privacy with her boyfriend, searches for a secluded spot in the bustling city.

The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhayam Kadam, Hridhu Haroon, and Azees Nedumangad.
