NORWALK, CA – The Peace Center of Los Angeles hosted an interfaith event, “Religious Harmony in Diversity for Global Peace,” on March 22 at the Sanatan Dharma Temple here, bringing together religious leaders, community advocates, and over 75 attendees to discuss the role of faith in fostering peace and understanding.

Kewal Kanda, the event chair and emcee, opened the gathering by welcoming guests and with words, setting a positive and inclusive tone.

Capt. Aparna Hande, co-chair of the Peace Center, delivered the opening address and eloquently emphasized that “diversity is not an obstacle but a blessing” and underscored how the core values of various faiths promote peace, compassion, and non-violence. Her inspiring words resonated deeply with the audience, setting the stage for a meaningful dialogue.

Ashok Madan, chair of the Peace Center, spoke about the organization’s mission and vision, recognizing the contributions of its founders, Dr. Gunvant and Ilaben Mehta, whose dedication to peace and unity has shaped its work.

The event featured speakers from multiple religious traditions. Professor Keshav Patel spoke about Ahimsa (non-violence) as a central principle of Hinduism. Reverend Robert Wright discussed Christianity’s message of love and compassion in fostering unity. Maneck Bhujwala, representing Zoroastrianism, highlighted the role of justice and moral values in creating lasting peace.

Cantor Jenna Sagan emphasized Judaism’s concept of Tikkun Olam, or repairing the world, as a foundation for interfaith dialogue. Munir Shaikh spoke about the importance of brotherhood and understanding in Islam, while Mark Currie of the Bahá’í faith discussed the role of unity in diversity in advancing global harmony.

A cultural program led by Surekha Modi further underscored the event’s theme of religious harmony. Attendees were also treated to a vegetarian meal as part of the evening’s hospitality.

The Peace Center of Los Angeles continues its mission to foster dialogue, build trust, and promote global peace through interfaith collaboration. “Together, let us continue to be the light that guides humanity toward unity and peace,” Kanda said in closing.
