Please, Lilly Singh, Would Like You To Know She Now Has A PhD

LOS ANGELES, CA – YouTuber-turned-TV star Lilly Singh now has a new title to flaunt: PhD. On October 15, her alma mater, York University, awarded her an honorary doctor of laws degree, recognizing her impact on community building and pop culture in Toronto.

Singh shared her excitement on Instagram, posting, “I am Dr. Singh. Words can’t even begin to describe what an immense honour it is to receive a doctorate from my very own @yorkuniversity. I’m truly having a hard time processing it.”

Reflecting on her unconventional path, Singh wrote that she’d once feared for her career in entertainment and worried about making her parents proud. ‘We’ve all heard the stereotype about Brown parents wanting their kids to be a doctor, lawyer, or engineer, and let’s be honest, it’s usually true. But that’s because, to them, those paths represented stability. And at the end of the day, all parents really want is for their kids to be safe and able to make a living.’

She added with her trademark humor, “When you see me on the streets, please refer to me as Dr. Daddy Singh.”

Singh joked about how this new title might define her forever. “This will probably be my bio, my next tattoo, maybe even the wrap on my car. Just really subtle things

Speaking of being a Canadian who  now lives in LA, she said, her parents now worry about traveling to L.A., that they fear they might have trouble crossing the border with all the new rules.
