SAN RAMON, CA –
The heart of San Ramon transformed into a bustling hub of culture, cuisine, and celebration on May 10 as The Great Indian Food and Shopping Fest brought a slice of India to the Bay Area. Organized by the Association of Indo Americans and co-sponsored by Bolly 92.3 FM, the festival was a sensory feast that attracted thousands of attendees from across the region.

From the moment guests arrived, they were immersed in the sights, sounds, and smells of India. More than 100 shopping booths lined the venue, offering everything from intricate jewelry and colorful apparel to hand-crafted art and traditional home décor. Local businesses and artisans showcased their goods, creating a vibrant bazaar atmosphere reminiscent of a busy Indian marketplace.

The aroma of Indian spices wafted through the air, leading festival-goers to over 20 food booths dishing out regional favorites. From steaming plates of biryani and crispy dosas to tangy chaats and sweet jalebis, the food court was a hit among visitors of all ages. A dedicated Mango Festival added a tropical twist, celebrating India’s beloved fruit with fresh mangoes, juices, and creative desserts.

Adding to the excitement were carnival rides and games, drawing cheers from children and families. One of the most popular attractions was the MayaBazaar Express, a train ride that weaved through the venue, offering a fun-filled journey for kids. The festive spirit soared even higher with an appearance by popular cartoon character Chhota Bheem, who delighted children with hugs, high-fives, and photo ops.

On stage, the energy never waned. Nonstop cultural programs featured classical and contemporary dance performances, live music from EBK Musical, and upbeat DJ sets that had crowds dancing well into the evening. A special highlight was the Mom & Me Fashion Show, a tribute to mothers just ahead of Mother’s Day, where mothers and children took the spotlight in traditional and modern Indian attire.

The event also drew notable dignitaries from across the Bay Area. Dr. Srikar Reddy, Consul General of India in San Francisco, praised AIA’s efforts to foster unity and promote grassroots entrepreneurship, aligning with India’s “One District – One Product” initiative. San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong, Vice Mayor Sridhar Verose, and other city leaders, including police chiefs and councilmembers from nearby cities, expressed their admiration for the event’s community impact and flawless execution.

Thanks to meticulous planning and the dedication of volunteers, TGIFS unfolded seamlessly. It has quickly become a cornerstone event for Indian Americans in the Bay Area, growing in scope and popularity each year.

Founded to represent over 50 Indian community organizations across Northern California, the Association of Indo Americans continues its mission of fostering cultural exchange, civic engagement, and community service. TGIFS is a shining example of that vision in action.
