MUMBAI, (ANI) – Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for his next big release, Deva, marking his return to the action genre as a fearless cop with a “massy” look.

Over the years, the Jab We Met actor has undergone dramatic hair transformations for his roles, from going bald for Haider to experimenting with messy styles, long locks, and different beard looks. He has never hesitated to alter his appearance to suit his characters.

On January 28, Shahid reflected on his evolving looks, emphasizing that actors must learn to “sacrifice” aspects of their appearance that they are most associated with. He shared how stepping away from physical attributes he once relied on helped him grow as a performer.

“I think hair has always been a big part of my personality because I had a lot of it in the beginning, and I had that boyish look. What I realized as an actor is that you have to learn to sacrifice things that you think define you. When you let go of something that has been a strong part of your personality—something that boosts your confidence, like thinking, ‘my eyes are nice, my hair is nice’—you realize confidence doesn’t come from these aspects,” Shahid said.

“But to be a true actor, you have to let go of those crutches. Something stronger will emerge from within, independent of any physical trait. Haider was a turning point for me. Even before that, with Kaminey and other films, I was trying to rediscover myself. This journey has been about learning, growing, and exploring my relationship with myself. Whenever I feel a role justifies it, I’ll take the plunge,” he added.

Asked if he ever hesitated to shave his head for a role, Shahid chuckled and said, “Jab bachpan mein bachhe ka mundan hota hai, tab toh koi nahin puchta ki baal wapas aayenge ya nahin. They say your hair grows back better after shaving it off. I never had any such fears.”

Shahid’s upcoming film Deva, an action thriller, marks his return to the big screen after almost a year, following his last appearance in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya with Kriti Sanon.

Also starring Pooja Hegde as an investigative journalist, Deva is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and produced by Zee Studios and Siddharth Roy Kapur. The film is set to release worldwide on January 31.
