Sreerama Chandra Defends Jasleen Amid Coldplay Concert Backlash: “Trolling Isn’t Fair”
NEW DELHI (ANI)- Following backlash over Jasleen Royal’s opening act for Coldplay’s Mumbai concert, Indian Idol 5 winner Sreerama Chandra defended her on January 29, calling it a “personal choice” whether people liked her performance or not.
“I’m very happy for Jasleen. She got an opportunity and did her best. If people are listening to her on Spotify, they clearly like her. Trolling her isn’t fair—no artist would turn down such a big opportunity,” he said.
Sreerama, a playback singer known for Subhanallah (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), added that Coldplay must have chosen Jasleen for a reason. “They know who fits the role. She’s a popular independent artist, and Coldplay, being an independent band, would naturally support her.”
Jasleen performed at Coldplay’s Mumbai concert on January 18, opening with Kho Gaye Hum Kahan before joining Chris Martin for a duet of We Pray from the band’s latest album, Moon Music.
Sharing clips from the evening on Instagram, Jasleen looked stunning in a shimmering black outfit as she played the piano and sang to loud cheers from the crowd.
