Subhash Shastri, Engineer, Community Leader, Passes Away

MILBRAE, CA – Subhash Shastri, an 82-year-old member of the Indian American community here, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 25, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

Shastri’s legacy spans decades of dedication to both his profession as an engineer and his community as a staunch advocate for the Bihari diaspora.

Born in Baroda, Gujarat, in 1940, Shastri’s parents hailed from Bihar and relocated to Gujarat to pursue academic endeavors at Gurukul Supa. In 1968, leaving his wife Sunaina and child in India, Shastri came to the US to pursue a graduate degree in Civil Engineering.

His commitment to his academic pursuits laid the foundation for a career serving the City and County of San Francisco as an engineer. The family also resided in and operated the Page Hotel. Over several decades, he and his wife sponsored numerous family members to join them in the US. He also played key roles in the Bihari community’s development. including in the American Organization for Development of Bihar.

Shastri is survived by his wife, Sunaina, and their two sons, Sanjay and Siddharth, along with their daughters-in-law, Sheena and Dipti, and four grandchildren.
