DETROIT, MI – Former state senator Adam Hollier, who is vying to replace congressman Shri Thanedar, has acknowledged that his campaign may have submitted some fraudulent petition signatures, according to the Detroit Metro Times.

Indian American Thanedar, a first-term Democratic Representative from Detroit, has formally challenged the validity of Hollier’s petitions, asserting that his fellow Democrat should be removed from the ballot.

The two have a history. In the Democratic primary election of August 2022, Thanedar secured victory over Hollier with 28% of the vote compared to Hollier’s 24%.

This current challenge comes nearly two years after five Republican candidates for governor were disqualified due to forged signatures.

In response to Thanedar’s challenge, Hollier’s attorneys stated that they reviewed the petitions and discovered apparent forgeries by a paid circulator named Londell Thomas from Harper Woods. The campaign intends to report the suspected signature fraud.

However, Hollier’s legal team, asserted that the majority of the signatures were legitimate and sufficient to secure Hollier’s place on the ballot. They criticized Thanedar, alleging that his challenge was an attempt at voter suppression.

Thanedar told the Metro Times that Hollier failed to collect enough valid signatures, citing 228 from voters outside the district, 338 from unregistered voters, 90 duplicates, and 82 fraudulent signatures. He also dismissed charges of voter suppression saying that he respects the voters’ will and initiated the challenge to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
