NEW YORK, NY – Indian American Deepak Chopra is backing The Healing Company, a business set up to acquire consumer health brands. He will be its new chief scientific advisor as well as have a stake in the company.

“For the last 45 years, I’ve focused on integrated health and wellbeing, and I thought they had a great business plan to acquire more companies” Chopra told CNBC. “I decided I could help them with scientific validation of products and services.”

The company’s aim over the next three years is to buy and scale 15 health brands that focus on holistic healing for the consumer to buy and use. Chopra said the market is full of scam products hawking immunity, longevity, inflammation, sleep and stress management.

“The problem is every celebrity you can name is creating their own nutraceuticals and there is no credibility anymore for that so there needs to be some kind of scientific validation,” Chopra told CNBC. The Chopra Foundation will work to correct this, studying data and determining whether a brand should be acquired by The Healing Company.

In addition to nutraceuticals and nutritional products, Chopra said he would be advising the company to investigate psychedelics too.

Others backing the company include Christian Angermayer who co-founded the psychedelics start-up ATAI Life Sciences. On the board of The Healing Company will also be Chopra Foundation CEO Poonacha Machaiah.

The firm’s valuation has not been disclosed, reported CNBC.
