Wife Wants Dharmesh Patel Back Home, Admitted To Mental Health Program

REDWOOD CITY, CA – Neha Patel, the wife of Dharmesh Patel of Pasadena, CA who is accused of deliberately driving a Tesla off a cliff with his family inside, pleaded with prosecutors to drop his attempted murder charges during her courtroom testimony on May 2.
In an emotional statement delivered in a court here, Neha Patel said, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, “We need him in our lives, and it has been over a year and a half since my children, or I have seen or spoken to Dharmesh.” She emphasized, “We are not a family without him.”
Dharmesh Patel, a radiologist, faces three counts of attempted murder for allegedly steering the family’s Tesla off a 250-foot cliff in what appeared to be a murder-suicide attempt on January 2, 2023.
Quoting her now-5-year-old son, Neha Patel recalled, “He’s taking so long, and I miss him,” highlighting the child’s longing for his father and the “emotional pain” of her children. She said her son, “Wished daddy would magically appear on St. Patrick’s Day when he saw a rainbow.”
A psychologist testified last week that Dharmesh Patel suffered from psychosis and had delusions about his children being kidnapped and molested before the crash. Neha Patel asserted during her testimony, the SF Chronicle said, “Now that we understand and know he has a treatable condition, things will be different.” She stressed, “I want members of the court to know the health and safety of my family is of paramount importance.”
Lawyers have asked that Dharmesh Patel be allowed to enter into a mental health diversion program, consisting of two-year treatment, which if completed, would lead to his charges being dropped.
