Public Safety Concerns After Uber Driver Charged With Sexual Assault
OTTAWA-The sexual assault of a woman at a public parking facility in Canada by a ride-share driver has reignited debate over public safety, immigration and crime, with a report arguing that the incident reflects broader concerns rather than an isolated case.
According to a report published by ‘Khalsa Vox’, a woman standing in the parking lot at Burlington GO Station in Ontario on June 16 at around 5:15 p.m. was approached by a man who initiated a conversation and sexually assaulted her. “When she fled to a nearby business, he followed and assaulted her a second time. She escaped without physical injuries, but the violation remains,” the report said.
Halton Regional Police charged Uber driver Mandeep Singh, 25, of Etobicoke, with two counts of sexual assault. Police released his photograph, saying investigators believe there may be additional victims, and appealed for anyone with information to come forward. Singh was arrested on July 26 and remained in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
The report noted that social media posts describing Singh as a “prominent Khalistani figure” and linking him to extremist networks remain unverified.
“The official record is straightforward. The circulating graphic that labels him a ‘prominent Khalistani figure’ and ‘Big Khalistani Leader’… is not,” the report said, adding that Canadian authorities and mainstream media have identified Singh only as a ride-share driver facing criminal charges.
Highlighting that the case is not an isolated incident, the report said ride-share platforms rely on public trust but gaps in screening and accountability remain.
The report added that debate in Canada over immigration, community standards and crime often becomes polarized, but stressed that the focus should remain on protecting potential victims, ensuring a thorough investigation and impartial prosecution, and examining whether commercial ride-share platforms are doing enough to prevent offenders from exploiting their services.
