MUMBAI – Actor Emraan Hashmi, ahead of the release of his upcoming film Haq, has shared the deeper meaning behind recreating the film’s poster outside the Supreme Court of India — an act he says was symbolic of the movie’s powerful message on justice and courage.

“Recreating the Haq poster in front of the Supreme Court wasn’t just a visual moment; it was symbolic,” Hashmi said. “The film is inspired by a landmark case that changed the course of justice in India, and standing there reminded us of the real stories that inspired it.”

Co-star Yami Gautam added, “Justice may take time, but it never leaves you alone. Haq is a voice that sparks reform, revisiting a powerful judgment that ignited change.”

Directed by Suparn Verma, Haq tells the story of a Muslim woman who challenges the system and seeks justice for herself and her children under Section 125. The film explores faith, identity, and the tension between personal laws and constitutional rights, reflecting debates around the Uniform Civil Code envisioned in Article 44.

The film, inspired by a landmark Supreme Court judgment from the 1980s, highlights the enduring relevance of that case. The court itself serves as a powerful backdrop and symbol in the narrative.

At the trailer launch, Hashmi addressed whether his identity as a Muslim made the role more personal. “When I read a script like this, I saw it as an actor, but for the first time, I also had to bring in the perspective of a Muslim,” he said. “The country was once divided between religion and constitutional rights, but this film’s point of view is balanced, unbiased, and neutral.”

Haq is slated to release in theatres on November 7. (IANS)
