MUMBAI– Dharma Productions has issued a statement addressing serious abuse allegations against Pratik Shah, the cinematographer of their acclaimed film Homebound. The controversy erupted after filmmaker Abhinav Singh publicly accused Shah of emotional abuse and manipulation on Instagram, leading Shah to delete his account amid a wave of similar claims.

Singh’s disclosure prompted nearly 20 women to come forward with their own troubling experiences. “The patterns are undeniable. Many have called him a predator,” Singh said, also criticizing the silence of male industry peers. Filmmaker and writer Srishti Riya Jain added that Shah “has been on the prowl for the past four years,” referencing previous online discussions warning of his behavior.

In response, Dharma Productions said that Shah worked as a freelance cinematographer on Homebound for a limited period and that their internal Prevention of Sexual Harassment committee received no formal complaints during his engagement.

Meanwhile, director Neeraj Ghaywan thanked the Homebound team post-Cannes on June 2, but his note made no mention of cinematographer Pratik Shah

Homebound, produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor.

Facing allegations of inappropriate behavior and sexual misconduct, Shah is likely to be removed from his next project, the biopic of former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter India.  (With ANI inputs)
