Enrique Iglesias Reflects India’s Growing Global Sound
MUMBAI – For global pop icon Enrique Iglesias, music isn’t confined by borders — it’s a living, breathing force that keeps evolving with him. “I am influenced by everything and anything I hear to some degree… every single day,” he says, reflecting the curiosity that has powered his three-decade career.
As the ‘King of Latin Pop’ returns to India after 13 years, Iglesias is struck by how the country’s music scene has flourished globally. “It was bound to happen, and I couldn’t be happier. India has such amazing fans. They have such a great respect and appreciation for music. The energy is extraordinary whenever I perform here,” he shares.
The singer, who first performed in India in 2004 and again in 2012, says his comeback was always part of the plan. “There was no hiatus; it just takes time between albums and touring around to other countries to make it back over there. But it has always been a priority to come back, and I could not be more thrilled.”
Iglesias, known for chart-toppers like Hero, Bailamos, Escape, Addicted, and Rhythm Divine, has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide since his 1995 debut. His songs, laced with longing and rhythm, defined an era of mixtapes and love dedications — and still find new life with each generation of listeners.
Hinting at the possibility of an Indo-Latin collaboration, Iglesias says he’s open to fresh sounds and partnerships: “I am always open to ideas, and you never know — it could already be in the making.”
Even after decades of performing for millions, he admits the stage still gives him butterflies. “I still get nervous before every performance. Those things never seem to change,” he says with a laugh.
And what is he most looking forward to on this trip? “The people — and of course, the food,” he grins, ready to let music once again bridge continents and hearts.
