WASHINGTON, DC – Hasan Minhaj has been named the recipient of the American Advertising Federation’s 2026 Cultural Force Award, which honors a public figure outside the advertising industry whose work has influenced how brands advertise, market and reach new audiences.
AAF President and CEO Steve Pacheco said the award recognizes people whose work has shaped culture, challenged existing narratives and encouraged audiences to think more deeply.
The announcement comes after the September 18 global release of Netflix’s ‘Best of the Best,’ produced by Minhaj’s company, 186K Films. Minhaj co-wrote the film with Prashanth Venkataramanujam and stars in it. The film is directed by Lena Khan and stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia.
Minhaj is a two-time Peabody Award winner known for the Netflix special ‘Homecoming King’ and the political satire series ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,’ which received a Peabody Award, an Emmy and a Television Academy Honor.
He is the co-founder and CEO of 186K Films and hosts the podcast and digital series ‘Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know.’ He previously served as a senior correspondent on Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.’
The Advertising Hall of Achievement recognizes advertising professionals age 40 and younger, while the Cultural Force Award, introduced in 2023, recognizes a public figure outside the industry. Previous recipients include former NBA All-Star Chris Paul in 2023, writer, producer and actor Issa Rae in 2024, and model Ashley Graham in 2025.
