India Urges Citizens Traveling To Mexico To Carry Proper Papers
NEW DELHI, (ANI) – The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued an advisory urging Indian travelers to adhere to Mexico’s immigration regulations to avoid difficulties upon arrival. On January 3, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the importance of reviewing travel advisories before planning trips to Mexico.
“This is to inform Indian travelers going to Mexico that they must follow all the regulations in place to avoid discomfort during their travel,” Jaiswal said. He urged Indian nationals to consult travel advisories thoroughly when planning their journey.
Highlighting recurring issues faced by Indian travelers, Jaiswal stressed the need for proper documentation. “A number of Indian nationals with visas have faced problems due to lack of documentation or unsatisfactory responses to immigration authorities,” he explained.
A statement from the Indian Embassy in Rome further elaborated on Mexico’s strict immigration policies. It noted that many Indian nationals have faced rigorous checks at border entry points, often leading to detention for several days at Mexican airports, followed by deportation to India.
The embassy described the hardships faced by detained travelers, including economic losses and the inability to contact family or friends as their mobile phones are confiscated. Travelers arriving from third countries or holding visas other than Mexican visas reportedly face even stricter scrutiny, with higher instances of detention or deportation.
“Indian nationals are hereby advised to keep the above in mind before undertaking any kind of travel to Mexico, so as to avoid unpleasant and unfortunate incidents at immigration entry points,” the embassy’s statement concluded.
Indian authorities have called on travelers to ensure they carry all required documents and remain informed about Mexico’s immigration procedures to avoid unnecessary distress.
