New Book Nalanda: How It Changed the World Released
JAIPUR (ANI) – Author Abhay K’s latest book, Nalanda: How It Changed the World, was launched at the Jaipur Literature Festival by historian William Dalrymple, Professor Shailendra Raj Mehta, and author-historian Narayani Basu.

The book delves into the history of Nalanda Mahavihara, tracing its origins, rise, and eventual decline while showcasing its contributions to various fields, including science, mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, art and architecture, religion and poetry, and medicine.
During the launch on January 30, William Dalrymple read from his book The Golden Road, citing Hwui-li, the biographer of the Chinese monk Xuanzang, who described Nalanda as “the most magnificent and sublime of them all.”
Abhay K highlighted Nalanda’s enduring legacy, crediting it with pioneering the university system, introducing the use of zero as a digit, and fostering book culture. He noted that while Nalanda’s physical infrastructure was largely destroyed by the early 14th century, its influence endured, inspiring the creation of similar institutions across the world.
The book offers an in-depth exploration of the scholars who shaped Nalanda’s reputation and the foreign intellectuals who visited the renowned monastery, reaffirming its historical significance as a center of learning.
