Priyanka Chopra Joins Others As Producer Of Oscar-Shortlisted Film Anuja

LOS ANGELES, CA(ANI) – Priyanka Chopra has expressed immense happiness as she joins the Oscar-shortlisted film Anuja as an executive producer.

Mindy Kaling is also one of the producers.

Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor has joined Anuja as a producer. This marks Monga’s third Oscar nomination; her previous projects, The Elephant Whisperers and Period: End of Sentence, both won Oscars, earning global acclaim for Indian cinema.

Anuja tells the story of its nine-year-old protagonist, who works in a back-alley garment factory with her older sister, Palak. The narrative follows Anuja as she confronts a life-altering decision that will affect both her future and her family.

The film was created in collaboration with the Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT), a nonprofit founded by Mira Nair’s family to support street and working children. It is co-produced by Shine Global, known for Academy Award-winning films War/Dance and Inocente, and Krushan Naik Films.

In addition to Anuja, another film still in contention for the Oscars is Santosh, a British-Indian film directed by Sandhya Suri. Starring Shahana Goswami, Santosh is the United Kingdom’s official entry for the Academy Awards. The film premiered earlier this year in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
