PANAJI, (ANI) – Mohammed Rafi’s son, Shahid Rafi, fondly recalled the legendary singer as both a remarkable father and an artist whose voice remains unforgettable. “He was a true father. We miss him deeply. He was an excellent husband and a family man. Dad never socialized much; he always spent time with us, playing around and being present. He was very down-to-earth, soft-spoken, and charitable,” shared Shahid.

Expressing amazement at his father’s enduring legacy, Shahid said, “I’m really surprised that even after 45 years, people remember him so fondly. Wherever I go, they talk about him. His songs and numerous shows dedicated to him are celebrated throughout the year, all over the world.”

Rafi’s unparalleled versatility earned him the title of one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent. His ability to adapt his voice to suit the persona of each actor was unmatched. His repertoire, spanning over a thousand Hindi films and songs in multiple Indian languages, showcased his exceptional talent.

Born on December 24, 1924, Mohammed Rafi’s journey from humble beginnings to musical stardom epitomized skill and determination. His work encompassed romantic ballads, soulful ghazals, devotional bhajans, classical compositions, and vibrant party numbers. Collaborating with iconic music directors like Naushad, OP Nayyar, Shankar-Jaikishan, SD Burman, and Roshan, Rafi created an indelible mark in the golden era of Indian music.

He was honored with numerous accolades, including six Filmfare Awards, a National Film Award, and the prestigious Padma Shri in 1967. Some of his evergreen hits include “Tum Mujhe Yun Bhula Na Paoge,” “Yeh Jo Chilman Hai,” and “Kitna Pyara Vaada.”

Shahid admitted that picking favorites from his father’s vast discography is a challenge. However, songs like “Tum Mujhe Yun Bhula Na Paoge” and “Dil Ka Soona Saaz Tarana Dhundega” hold a special place in his heart, often leaving him emotional.

Rafi passed away on July 31, 1980, but his melodies continue to resonate with music lovers worldwide. His timeless songs ensure that his legacy will inspire generations to come.
