WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has led Illinois’ Democratic U.S. House members in calling for a formal briefing from the U.S. Census Bureau on preparations for the 2030 Census, citing persistent undercount estimates that have affected the state.

In a letter to Acting Director Ron Jarmin, the delegation voiced “deep concern about the repeated undercounting of Illinois’ population,” noting the state’s finding that more than 46,000 residents were missed in the 2020 Census. They warned that the undercount “may have contributed to Illinois’ reported population loss and reduced our congressional representation as well as the federal resources that support our schools, hospitals, roads, and families.”

The lawmakers underscored that Illinois remains vulnerable to undercounting with its large immigrant population and argued that inaccurate tallies “deprive these communities of their fair share of resources and weaken their representation in Congress.”
