WASHINGTON, DC – Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has strongly condemned the tragic death of seven humanitarian aid workers from the World Central Kitchen in Gaza, following an Israeli air strike.
Taking to X, she denounced the attack and called for a reassessment of military aid to Israel.
“The latest horror inflicted by Netanyahu’s air strikes on Gaza—killing brave souls at World Central Kitchen delivering food to starving Palestinians. Another strike also killed at least 15 Palestinians in Rafah, including 5 children. We must stop US military aid used for indiscriminate killing,” her post read.
This is not the first time Jayapal has expressed her discontent with Israeli action in the region. In an earlier tweet, she said the US must utilize its influence to secure a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
While President Joe Biden has ramped up his criticism of the military action and has singled out Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli leader has simply dug his heels in. Barely managing to hold on to power after elections, last week, thousands of Israelis marched the streets against him and the war.
The founder of WCK, Chef José Andrés, confirmed the devastating loss of several staff members in the Israeli air strike. Expressing profound grief, Andrés called for an end to indiscriminate violence and urged the Israeli government to prioritize the protection of civilians and aid workers.
WCK operates 60+ kitchens in southern and central Gaza and has been cooking hundreds of thousands of meals each day.

Fully agree with Representative Pramila Jayapal on restrictions on use of US aid and military equipment for the merciless killing of innocent civilians in Palestine. I hope she and her caucus can convince the President to stop all future aid and publicly state the restrictions.

“In an earlier tweet, she said the US must utilize its influence to secure a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.“
I think that the US military aid to Israel to dismantle Hamas must be intertwined with not only the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza but also release of the hostages and neither goal can be achieved without a negotiated ceasefire.
This is imperative not only from humane perspective but also political perspective, considering the frequency and passion of Palestinian American and Muslim protesters against the civilian casualties of the Gaza war.
WCK does an excellent job of delivering food to civilians even in a war torn territory. The least we can do is to make their job easier rather than harder. More Palestinians will die of starvation if it becomes unsafe for the food delivery personnel to deliver food. Who wants to lose one’s life just because one wants to deliver food to hungry and starving people?
