HOUSTON, TX — Axiom Space, a leader in commercial space infrastructure and human spaceflight services, on April 25 announced the appointment of Tejpaul Bhatia as its new Chief Executive Officer. Bhatia steps into the role after serving as the company’s Chief Revenue Officer for the past four years, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Axiom’s ascent in the space industry.
Since joining Axiom Space in 2021, Bhatia has led several transformative initiatives, including negotiating the first-ever sovereign government purchases of commercial human spaceflight missions to the International Space Station. Under his leadership, Axiom launched the groundbreaking Axiom missions, redefining access to low-Earth orbit for nations and private individuals alike.
Bhatia also spearheaded innovative collaborations across industries — most notably a partnership with fashion house Prada to design NASA-awarded, next-generation lunar spacesuits for the Artemis III mission, and a collaboration with Nokia to integrate high-speed cellular technology into the suits. These efforts have positioned Axiom Space as a trailblazer in human spaceflight and technology integration.
Reflecting on his appointment, Bhatia said, “I’ve been inspired by space exploration since childhood, and leading Axiom Space at this critical inflection point in human spaceflight is the realization of a lifelong ambition. We are accelerating our investment in next-generation technologies — spacesuits, orbital infrastructure, and microgravity research and manufacturing — and we’re actively seeking passionate, visionary engineers, technologists, and entrepreneurs who want to help build humanity’s future in space.”
Bhatia’s career spans over two decades at the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship, and leadership. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Columbia University and has served in leadership and board roles for nonprofits including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Startup Leadership Program.
Before joining Axiom, Bhatia was at Google, where he led strategic storytelling and ecosystem engagement for Google Cloud, helping to drive more than $4 billion in sales pipeline. A serial entrepreneur, he founded and led three investor-backed startups — Explain Everything, Chatwala, and Kaptur — with two successful acquisitions. Earlier in his career, he helped pioneer modern digital video streaming at ESPN, leading the company’s international digital expansion across the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Europe.
As he steps into his new role, Bhatia is expected to guide Axiom Space into its next chapter — one defined by innovation, collaboration, and a bold vision for the commercialization of space.
