AR Rahman Mourns Passing Of Quincy Jones
LOS ANGELES, CA (ANI) – Quincy Jones, the legendary music genius whose influence spanned decades, has died at the age of 91. A.R. Rahman paid tribute to his close friend, known for producing Michael Jackson’s iconic album Thriller, by sharing a series of photos and expressing his deep sense of loss. In his heartfelt caption, Rahman wrote, “Another shining star from Earth has dissolved into the infinite.”
Jones passed away on the night of November 3 at his home. The Jones family released a statement saying, “Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. While this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
With an impressive legacy, Jones was a prolific composer and producer. He created the soundtrack for the 1969 film The Italian Job, which starred Michael Caine, and received six of his 27 Grammy Awards for his 1990 album Back on the Block. He was also a three-time Producer of the Year honoree.
Jones began his celebrated production collaborations with Michael Jackson in 1979 with the singer’s solo album Off the Wall. In 2006, he received a Tony Award nomination for producing the musical adaptation of The Color Purple.
He released his autobiography, Q, in 2001, and the audio version won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album in 2002. Jones was married and divorced three times and is survived by six daughters and a son, according to Variety.
