NEW YORK, NY — Dr. Nandita Shah, physician and founder of SHARAN India, led a full-day wellness seminar on the role of whole food plant-based (WFPB) nutrition in preventing and reversing chronic diseases. She explained how dietary changes can help manage conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and heart disease.

The event, which saw a large gathering of interested people, began with a live demonstration of a green smoothie, showcasing a dairy-free, nutrient-rich breakfast option. Shah emphasized the benefits of whole foods and the harmful effects of processed ingredients, which often contain additives and lack fiber. She discussed the importance of an alkaline diet in reducing inflammation and aiding detoxification, highlighting how acidic foods such as meat, coffee, and processed products contribute to health issues.

Shah, the founder of Sanctuary for Health and Reconnection to Animals and Nature, an organization focused on disease prevention and reversal through plant-based nutrition is a registered medical practitioner and homeopath. She addressed misconceptions about diabetes, explaining that fat, rather than sugar, plays a major role in insulin resistance and that a WFPB diet can restore insulin sensitivity.

Rakesh Bhargava, a long-time vegan, recounted his recovery from two heart attacks through dietary changes alone.

The event featured plant-based meals that highlighted the variety of WFPB cuisine. Participants received guidance on making green smoothies, healthier breakfast choices, and transitioning to a plant-based diet. A Q&A session covered topics such as intermittent fasting, rice consumption, and hydration.

The seminar was sponsored by wellness advocates Suman and Shashi Khanna and supported by Plant Powered Metro New York and World Vegan Vision, organizations promoting plant-based nutrition.
