India Was A Strange Place In 1988: Hugh Grant
WASHINGTON, DC (ANI) – BAFTA-winning actor Hugh Grant recently reminisced about his visit to India in 1988 to film a French movie, sharing an amusing incident during his time in Kolkata. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Grant recalled his surprise when an 11-year-old boy approached him at the airport, introducing himself as Grant’s driver.
“In my early career, in my 20s, I made some very strange films. I did this French film in India in 1988, and it was a bit of a weird film. I arrived in Calcutta by myself and was told, ‘a driver will pick you up,’” Grant shared. After waiting alone at the baggage carousel, a young boy finally approached, saying, “Hello, sir, I am your driver.” Amused and doubtful, Grant replied, “Are you sure?” to which the boy confidently assured, “Yes, very well, sir.”
Despite his doubts, Grant allowed the boy to drive him, but within four days, they experienced a serious crash. “Well, he was 11,” Grant laughed, adding that the boy was later dismissed. Grant ran into him two months later and asked about his well-being. The boy replied happily, “Oh, yes, sir, now I’m driving a school bus.”
