FREMONT, CA-Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan has been appointed Vice Chair for Parks of the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment & Sports Committee.
Salwan said he plans to use the new role to learn from what other cities are doing, explore new partnerships and funding opportunities, and bring those ideas back to Fremont.
He also hopes to make Fremont more of a destination by showcasing places that residents enjoy, attracting visitors, supporting local businesses and highlighting what makes the city special.
Salwan became Fremont’s first Indian American elected mayor when he was sworn in in December 2024. He grew up in Fremont and has spent more than 18 years in city government, serving as a Human Relations Commissioner, Planning Commissioner, City Councilmember and Vice Mayor.
A small business owner and father of three, Salwan studied biological sciences at the University of California, Irvine, before earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University.
