WASHINGTON, D.C- Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) has joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in introducing the Leveling the Playing Field Act 2.0, a bill aimed at strengthening U.S. trade laws to counter unfair trade practices, particularly those linked to China.
The legislation, introduced by Representatives Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) and Terri Sewell (D-AL), along with Senators Todd Young (R-IN) and Tina Smith (D-MN), seeks to modernize trade remedy laws by making it easier for American businesses to challenge anti-competitive practices such as product dumping and government subsidies.
“For years, American workers and industries have faced unfair competition due to the Chinese Communist Party’s trade policies,” said Krishnamoorthi. “This legislation will provide stronger tools to enforce trade laws and protect U.S. businesses.”
House Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to curb what he described as China’s “economic aggression.”
The bill has gained support from industry groups, including the American Iron and Steel Institute, the Steel Manufacturers Association, and the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association.
