LOS ANGELES, CA – Mindy Kaling, Dev Patel, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are throwing their support behind a powerful new initiative to combat gender-based violence. The trio, serving as executive producers, have launched the global impact campaign #StandWithHer, inspired by Nisha Pahuja’s Oscar-nominated documentary To Kill a Tiger.

Pahuja’s film earned a 2024 Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

Unveiled on March 12 in New York City, the campaign is a partnership between Pahuja and the NGOs Equality Now, Equimundo, and MenEngage Alliance. It aims to break the silence around gender-based violence and drive systemic change.

The Netflix documentary follows Ranjit, a farmer from Jharkhand, who wages an extraordinary fight for justice after his 13-year-old daughter is sexually assaulted. Facing social stigma, death threats, and economic hardship, the family’s determination leads to a landmark legal ruling.

The #StandWithHer campaign is built around three key goals:

  • Empowering survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence to seek justice.
  • Encouraging men and boys to become allies in creating a culture of shared responsibility.
  • Preventing violence through education and reshaping social narratives.

The campaign will roll out with a nationwide screening tour of To Kill a Tiger across major cities, including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

With the backing of over 60 partners, the campaign aims to implement educational programs reaching up to 1.2 million students in 25,000–50,000 U.S. schools within two years.

Chopra said, “Gender-based violence is a global crisis, yet too often, it remains hidden in the shadows.”

“This is one of the most important stories in modern Indian history,” Dev Patel said while Kaling added, “This campaign is a crucial step towards a world free from gender-based violence—a world we deserve and must fight to see in our lifetimes.”
