Trump In One Sweep Pardons January 6 Rioters

WASHINGTON, DC (Reuters) – On his first full day in office, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders, including pardoning supporters involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Around 1,500 defendants are set to be released from prison starting January 21, sparking criticism from lawmakers who were directly affected by the violent assault.

Trump’s pardon comes as part of a broader series of orders issued on his inauguration day, which aim to enact significant changes in U.S. policy. These measures include a crackdown on immigration, with U.S. border authorities halting the CBP One entry program, a move that has already prompted legal challenges. The president also announced the U.S. would re-exit the Paris climate agreement, a step he first took in 2017.

Other actions include the revocation of Biden-era restrictions on offshore oil drilling, a freeze on federal hiring, and the creation of a “Department of Government Efficiency” to cut government spending. Trump also imposed policies regarding diversity programs and gender recognition, along with controversial foreign policy proposals, including his intention to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and a vow to regain control of the Panama Canal.

The day’s executive orders signal Trump’s push to fulfill campaign promises and reshape U.S. policies on several fronts. However, the sweeping nature of his actions has led to immediate backlash and will likely face challenges in the courts and from U.S. allies abroad

  • And Biden, after pardoning his son for criminal acts that would send any non-Presidential son to years in jail, also pardoned murderers and his entire family during Presidential inauguration ceremony. But you wouldn’t cover that, would you?
