NEW YORK, NY – The Trump Organization is expanding its presence in India with its first commercial real estate venture, the Trump World Center Pune. Partnering with Tribeca Developers and Kundan Spaces, the firm announced plans for a two-tower office complex spanning 4.3 acres, expected to generate more than $289 million in sales.

The project, located in Pune’s North Main Road district, will feature more than 27 floors and 1.6 million square feet of office space, with one tower offering for-sale offices and the other leasing space. The development is slated for completion by 2029 and is part of a broader expansion strategy in India, already home to four Trump-branded towers in Pune, Mumbai, Gurugram, and Kolkata.

BRANDING

The business model of Trump Towers in India follows a brand licensing strategy. The Trump Organization does not directly invest in real estate projects in India. Instead, it licenses the ‘Trump’ name to Indian real estate developers who build and sell luxury properties under the Trump brand, Business Standard said.

Indian developers finance, construct, and sell Trump-branded properties.

Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization, emphasized the brand’s success in India, in a statement saying, “India has embraced the Trump brand with remarkable enthusiasm. After our successful collaboration on several iconic residential projects, we are proud to launch our first commercial development in India.”

ETHICS

While Donald Trump transferred control of his business empire to his sons and placed his assets in a trust, Bloomberg has noted that critics argue these measures do not fully separate him from the company. The Trump Organization’s latest ethics policy, announced in January, relaxed restrictions on foreign business dealings by allowing partnerships with private entities while prohibiting agreements with foreign governments.

Bloomberg has reported ongoing scrutiny from ethicists over whether foreign investments in Trump-branded properties could present conflicts of interest or influence policy decisions.

TRADE

This development comes even as Trump has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian officials are scrambling to appease him so tariffs don’t take effect on April 2.
