ICC Chairman Meets Olympics Chief As Cricket Prepares For Los Angeles 2028
NEW DELHI – International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry in Switzerland to discuss cricket’s road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and preparations for the sport’s return to the Summer Games.
The IOC approved cricket’s inclusion for LA28 last year, marking the sport’s comeback to the Olympics after 128 years. Cricket last appeared at the Paris 1900 Games, where Great Britain won gold in a one-off match against France.
All cricket matches will be staged at the Fairplex grounds in Pomona, Los Angeles County.
“It was a pleasure to meet with IOC President Kirsty Coventry to continue our ongoing discussions on the road to LA28 and cricket’s return to the Olympic Games. We reflected on the progress made so far and the significant role cricket can play in the growth of the Olympic movement,” Shah wrote on X, sharing a photo from the meeting.
At the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, six teams will compete in the T20 format in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. Each category will have 90 athlete slots, allowing participating nations to field 15-member squads.
The T20 competitions will take place from July 12 to 29, 2028. The women’s medal match is scheduled for July 20, while the men’s final will be held on July 29. (IANS)
