In a Rare Move, Pak Army Appoints 2 Hindus as Lt.Col.

NEW DELHI – In a rare move, the Pakistan army has promoted two Hindus to position of leadership. Ayaz Gul of VOA News tweeted, “#Pakistan Army promotes 2 officers from the minority #Hindu community to lieutenant colonel rank. Kailash Kumar and Aneel Kumar are from Tharparkar and Badin districts respectively.”

State broadcaster Pakistan Television announced the development.

Reacting to the news, Pakistan Hindu Council chief Dr Ramesh Kumar greeted the news with a message of congratulations.

Extending his congratulations, Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry called the newly promoted lieutenant colonels “our pride.” Writer Shama Junejo said “history has been made” and expressed the hope to see the officer promoted to the rank of General.
