Sreesanth, Binny To Play In American Premier League
HOUSTON, TX (IANS) – Former Indian cricketers S Sreesanth and Stuart Binny are set to play in the 2nd edition of the American Premier League that’s going to take place in Moosa Cricket Stadium here from December 19-31.
The league that was sanctioned by the International Cricket Council, in May this year and the USA Cricket Board, will have around 40 international cricketers across seven teams.
Fast bowler Sreesanth and all-rounder Binny will be part of the Premium Indians team.
The 40-year-old Sreesanth who announced his retirement from all forms of domestic cricket in India last year said, “I am honored to be picked by the Premium Indians. I am still very new to the franchise cricket ecosystem outside of India so excited about it. It would be a great experience to play in front of the American crowd in a new territory for the first time.”
Binny who held the record of the best spell by an Indian bowler in an ODI for 9 years (6 wickets for 4 runs against Bangladesh in 2014) till it was recently broken by Mohammad Shami in the ICC World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, said, “Now that my record is broken, I am keen to make some new records on international soil and give my best to Premium Indians and American Premier League. A T20 tournament in the US sounds like fun and I am looking forward to playing against some of the best talent from the world.”

Bad for the league.
The league needs to have the same level of players. Watch a high school game of equal players and it is enjoyable. bring in a college level guy to the high school league and the games will be too one sided to enjoy.
The league should place a requirement that all players are US legal residents and from particular territories like in the Olympics where an athlete represents their nation only. It will force the league to develop cricket in their area instead of paying a player to come over.

Unfortunately there is not enough local talent that match the calibre of professional cricketers from overseas.
Playing cricket in the US is a privilege and it will be a long way to go before that happens when cricketers in the US get to that level.
So for now this is purely for entertainment purpose. For the APL to succeed in the US, they need ex professionals to play. Who knows there may be some local talent that will be part of the APL
