Protests Greet Muhammed Yunus In NY Over Attacks On Minorities

NEW YORK, NY (ANI) – Protestors chanted “Go Back” slogans against Muhammad Yunus, who is leading Bangladesh’s interim government, outside a hotel in New York where he is staying for the 79th United Nations General Assembly session. Demonstrators raised slogans against Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, condemning his alleged role in attacks on minorities.

Sloganeers chanted, “Go back, Step down, Step down,” and held posters declaring, “Sheikh Hasina Our Prime Minister.” The protestors accused the 84-year-old Nobel Laureate of coming to power through “dirty politics.”

“Muhammad Yunus took power unconstitutionally and illegally. He captured it through dirty politics, and many people have been killed. Our elected PM Sheikh Hasina has not resigned. We humbly request the UN not to recognize him as representing the Bangladeshi people,” said protestor Sheikh Jamal Hussain.

Another protester, DM Ronald, echoed these sentiments, stating, “Our demand is peace. We believe in secular democracy. Since he took power by force, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians have been killed, houses are being burned, mosques and churches are being destroyed. People are not safe in Bangladesh.”

Dr. Rahman, also protesting, added, “I am here to protest this illegal, unelected person representing 117 million people. He doesn’t care about minorities or anyone else… He has illegally occupied the country.”

Yunus is scheduled to attend a high-level side event on the Rohingya crisis, with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi expected to meet him.
